Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu has said that under President Muhammadu Buhari, the country is fast descending into authoritarianism because of the crack down on the opposition and disregard of the rule of law.
In a statement by his media aide, Ekweremadu said some prominent members of the opposition PDP, including its spokesperson, Olisa Metuh, had either been invited or detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over alleged corruption.
While reaffirming PDP’s support for the anti-corruption crusade, he also lamented the anti-corruption stance currently taken.
He said “An anti-graft trap that catches only members of the opposition and those with axe to grind with the government of the day is compromised.”
He advised that the rule of law should be upheld because there will be no justice without the rule of law.
