Niger Government has approved N1 billion for construction of fire stations across the state.

A statement by Gov. Abubakar Bello’s, Chief Press Secretary, Malam Jibrin Ndace on Sunday in Minna, said the stations would mitigate the effect of fire outbreaks in the state.

The statement stated that the new stations would replace the old ones which were built in 1976 before the creation of the state.

According to the statement, the state Commissioner for Works, Alhaji Abdulmalik Cheche says the first phase will include Minna, Bida, Suleja, Kontagora and Mokwa, while Lapai, Agaie, New Bussa, Kuta and Kagara will come on in the second phase.

According to the statement, the fire station will have modern facilities, adding that government has procured 13 fire fighting engines that will be deployed to each of the stations.

“The new stations will be equipped with modern fire fighting gadgets to face the increasing challenges of urbanization in our cities and town.

“Under the first phase, Minna will have two stations while other towns will have one each,” it said.

It added that each of the stations would gulp N190 million and would have a water dump, industrial borehole, fire fighting engine, a back-up water tanker and other fire fighting gadgets. (NAN)
