The members of the House of Reps, through Abdulsamad Dasuki, have urged federal government to fund the navy to stop the Niger Delta militants.
Abdulsamad Dasuki, who is the chairman of the House of Representatives committee, advised the government of Muhammadu Buhari to consider consider the presentation of a Maritime Security Supplementary Bill for procurement the equipment.
Dasuki made this known during an oversight visit of the committee at the Navy Headquarters in Abuja.
Dasuki further stated that the situation Niger Delta deserved as much attention as the fight against insurgency in the North East.
Meanwhile, the Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, speaking earlier, said: “The navy, very unlike other services, works twenty four hours daily; our policing role places on us enormous responsibility the other services perhaps do not have.”
“It therefore means that when we have ships out there, twenty four hours daily, those ships are running, they are manned, and in that singular responsibility that we have, enormous resources are consumed.”
