Nick Cannon opened up about his split from Mariah Carey and whether he would ever marry again in a new interview with DuJour magazine.
The actor-comedian, 35, and Carey split in August 2014 after six years of marriage, with Cannon filing for divorce in December 2015. The exes share twins Moroccan and Monroe, 4, who they welcomed in April 2011.
“I feel like marriage isn’t for everyone,” Cannon told DuJour. “A friend of mine put it the funniest way. He said, ‘If you heard that there was a 50/50 chance of living or dying when you jump out of a plane, you probably wouldn’t go skydiving.’ There’s like a 50/50 chance of a marriage working. If it didn’t work out for you the first time, and you still survived it, you probably shouldn’t do it again.”
When asked if he would walk down the aisle a second time, he replied, “I highly doubt it.”
He went on to explain that he values his independence as a single man. “How do I say this the right way … Not to say that I was bogged down [in my marriage], because I wasn’t by any means, but I like being able to make my own decisions and come and go as I please,” he said.
Cannon and the “I’ll Be There” singer have remained seemingly amicable since calling it quits. (The America’s Got Talent host even recently told Howard Stern that he’s happy Carey has moved on with billionaire James Packer.) The exes have celebrated the holidays together, and Cannon doesn’t seem to have a problem with raising their kids in the spotlight.
