NHIS Boss: Do We Have A War On Corruption Or War On Opposition? Ben Bruce

1 Min Read

The senator representing Bayelsa East senatorial district in the National Assembly, Sen. Ben Murray-Bruce has accused the federal government of waging a war on the opposition under the pretence of fighting corruption.

The senator said this in reaction to the reinstatement of suspended Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Prof. Usman Yusuf.

Yusuf was suspended in July 2017 following serious allegations of cornering N919 million reported to the Minister of Health, Prof Isaac Adewole, and is being investigated by both the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.

Yusuf was allegedly reinstated on orders of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Taking to his verified Twitter handle on Tuesday, Murray-Bruce mocked the federal government for reinstating the NHIS boss despite the serious allegations against him.

He said, “But how can President Buhari claim to fight corruption while at the same time reinstating a man who has a strong case of corruption hanging over him? In fact, his reinstatement reportedly came while he was with the EFCC. Do we have a war on corruption or war on opposition?”
