NGO wants FG to regulate market prices

2 Min Read

Good Access Foundation, an NGO, has appealed to the government to regulate market prices, to enable youths afford the cost of raw materials for production.

Mrs Adama Ahmed, the Coordinator of the foundation, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Wednesday.

Ahmed noted that the current inflation rate, if not controlled, could hinder youths from utilising the skills acquired.

“The skills acquired will help grow the economy, hence we appeal to the Federal Government to create the enabling environment that will allow youths to replicate the knowledge.

According to her, the current problems could be solved if proper marketing networks between Nigerians and their foreign counterparts was established.

“As an NGO, we felt it was important to establish the skill acquisition centres in all the states of the federation to cater for the needs of Nigerian youths.

“We have been able to cover states in the northern part of the country and we are planning to extend to other zones.

“We have decided to target youths because they are the most vulnerable in society and we train them, give them some materials as start-up, to continue from where we have stopped.

“We also believe that doing this will equip and empower them to be useful to the society, especially as we are currently going through recession,’’ she said.

She added that training and equipping young talents to acquire knowledge that they could build on, would go a long way in reducing poverty and corruption in the society.

“It will also help close the gap between wealthy and underprivileged people, strengthen their thinking ability and cultural values as well as help boost economic activities in the country.

“Government should not relent developing the capacities of our youths.”

According to her, the foundation has trained about 1,000 youths in crafts, making beads, weaving and wood work, among others. (NAN)
