COVID-19: NGO Commences Distribution of 1 Million Sanitizers to Schools, Communities

3 Min Read

A Non-Governmental Organisation, ‘Waves of Success Foundation’ on Friday commenced distribution of one million bottles of hand sanitizers to schools and communities in Kogi East Senatorial District.

Mr John Ocheja, Executive Director of the Foundation, disclosed this during the flag-off of the first phase of distribution as part of measures to curtail the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the area.

At the commencement of the campaign at Ejule, Ofu Local Government on Friday, Ocheja said the exercise was at the instance of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Foundation, Mr Ocholi Yusuf.

Ocheja said the effort was aimed at complementing both the State and Federal Governments’ initiatives at preventing and controlling the spread of the virus.

The Executive Director, who led the team, said there was a need for students and the public, especially those at the grassroots, to be hygiene conscious.

“The distribution of one million pieces of hand sanitizers is to complement both the State and Federal Government effort in preventing and controlling the virus.

“The Government of Alhaji Yahaya Bello is doing a lot but cannot do it all, hence the need for all hands to be on deck to carry the sensitization campaign to the grassroots,’’ he said.

Ocheja enjoined all well-meaning Nigerians to join hands and partner government at all levels to check the deadly pandemic, rather than watch it seize the land and the people.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the NGO presented the items to management and students of Community Secondary School, Ejule.

The team had also extended the same gesture to Roman Catholic Missionary Schools I and II, Ugwolawo, as well as United Evangelical Church Primary and Secondary School Ugwolawo, all in Ofu Local Government.

Also, the NGO sensitization campaign team was at the palace of Ogohi of Ejule, Ofu Local Government Secretariat, the palace of the Eje of Ofu and palace of Ogohi of Anyigba, where it distributed the sanitizers to staff and community members.

Enyojo Shuaibu, National President, NAKOSS, who led the students’ delegation to partner with the Foundation on the campaign, commended the philanthropic disposition of the CEO, Ocholi Yusuf, for the intervention, and called on well-meaning Nigerians to emulate him.

NAN reports that 5,000 bottles of hand sanitizers were distributed during the first phase of the distribution.
