NGO Brings Succour To 514 Internally Displaced Households In Adamawa

2 Min Read

An Abuja-based Non- Governmental Organization (NGO), Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA), is rendering support to 514 households of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Adamawa.

Mr Peter Odiahi, the Emergency Management Coordinator of the group, disclosed this on Sunday at the presentation of relief materials to some households in Michika Local Government Area of Adamawa.

Odiahi said that the gesture was part of efforts by the organisation to assist returning IDPs to integrate them to the society.

He explained that the organisation with the support of the UN Foods and Agriculture organization (FAO), had provided the IDPs with various agro food processing machines to improve their livelihoods.

According to him, ADRA as an International NGO, has been working in partnership with the FAO, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in providing humanitarian services to displaced persons in seven local government areas worst affected by activities of Boko Haram in Adamawa.

“The project targets most vulnerable persons in communities especially widows, widowers, women headed households and child headed households whose livelihoods were affected during the insurgency,”he said.

He advised the beneficiaries of the NGO’s support in training, equipment and funds to utilize the opportunity provided to establish a micro business.

Speaking at the occasion, Executive Secretary of Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA), Alhaji Hamman Furo, lauded ADRA for its intervention and urged beneficiaries to make good use of the opportunity provided.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr Haruna Zira, thanked the organizations for what he described as “timely support’’ which would go a long way in improving their lives.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that materials distributed to some households at the occasion included bags of grains, sewing machines, grinding machines, oil extraction machines and spaghetti making machines among others. (NAN)
