NGO blames economic recession on mismanagement of resources

2 Min Read
Mr Ike Onyechere, the Chairman, Exam Ethics Marshal International (EEMI), an NGO, has attributed the current economic recession to the mismanagement of the Nation’s resources rather that fall in oil price.
Onyechere made this assertion when he featured on the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Forum in Abuja on Sunday.
While commending President Muhammadu Buhari for focusing on fighting corruption, he however, said that the battle may not be won, if the vices in the education sector were not first eliminated.
“I think that what we are passing through is not a function of the crash of oil price; the recession is not a function of dwindling resources.
“What we are passing through is a function of mismanagement of resources; it is a function of corruption.
“That is why I think that one of the major things that actually Mr President is getting right is the focus on the fight against corruption.
“But if he doesn’t first of all fight and win the battle against corruption in education, the battle of exam malpractice, the battle of academic dishonesty, it will be difficult to win the war against corruption.
“ If we are able to get our education right and we are able to bring up our children and instil in them moral and ethical values that will detest anything corrupt, then in the next four to eight years, you will see a new Nigeria.’’
Onyechere also noted that such upbringing would guarantee a Nigeria free from corruption in the near future. (NAN)
