The American National Football League has vowed to penalise any player who fails to stand during the singing of the national anthem.
The NFL stated that players are allowed to stay in the locker room if they insist on kneeling during the US anthem as kneeling down during the anthem is a sign of protest and shows lack of patriotism.
The NFL Commissioner, Roger Goodell said: “It was unfortunate that on-field protests created a false perception among many that thousands of NFL players were unpatriotic.”
The NFL Players stated that the protests were against police brutality of Black Americans.
The NFL commissioner also recently said that,“This is not and was never the case. This season, all league and team personnel shall stand and show respect for the flag and the Anthem.”
The new disciplinary policy does not state the amount clubs will be fined if their athletes kneel on the field, but gives clubs the option to sanction any player who disobeys.
