Barcelona forward Neymar has assured the fans of the club he will put pen to paper on a new contract soon to extend his stay at the club.
The 23-year-old forward in an interview with beIN Sports said that negotiations are still underway in his new contract negotiations with the club, stating: “The renewal is underway. I still have years left on my contract. I’m going to sign. The fans can relax.”
Neymar came under pressure to commit his future to the club after his father confirmed in an interview earlier in October that there was a massive interest for the forward’s services by Manchester United over the summer.
The former Santos player who joined Barcelona in 2013 still has three years left on his current deal, but he’s expected to be the mainstay of the club at some point in the future and fans apparently want to be sure where his loyalty lies.
Barcelona’s massive 5-2 win over Rayo Vallecano on Saturday had Neymar written all over it as he netted 4 goals and provided the assist for Suarez’s goal that completed the rout.
Neymar is an integral part of a Barcelona attacking trio, with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, that won the treble (Champions league, Spanish La Liga and Copa Del Rey) while raking in 122 goals among them, the highest scored by a trio in Spanish football. Messi got 58, Neymar 39 and Suarez 25.
