The trio of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar each grabbed at least a goal as Barcelona continued their impressive showing in the La Liga, thrashing helpless Real Sociedad 4-0.
However, easily the best of the three in the game was the 24-year-old Brazilian, who netted twice and set up the 90-minute strike for Messi.
The game started on a quiet note with both teams trying, albeit unsuccessfully, to get the upper hand until a terrific cross from the flanks by Barcelona right-back Dani Alves was intercepted by Neymar, who buried a 22nd-minute volley into the roof of Geronimo Rulli’s goal.
The goal signalled the breakthrough point for the Blaugrana players, who enjoyed the delight of seeing their spouses and kids watch them live at the Nou Camp.
The busy Alves kept the pressure on the Sociedad defenders, and coupled with some sleek passes from the midfield, ensured that Eusebio’s team could hardly enjoy any moment of respite.
The sustained pressure on the visitors saw them pick up two yellow cards in the spate of nine minutes, one of which was awarded to Yuri Berchiche for a rash tackle on Luis Suarez.
Another run down the right flank by Alves, a well-timed cross and Luis Suarez was able to score an acrobatic goal that could be described as the best goal of the game.
The Catalans were not done though, as they continued to pile pressure on their opponent’s defence until the duo of Sergio Canales and Ruben Pardo picked up two yellow cards in as many minutes.
Barcelona’s total domination of the game was rewarded again in the 53rd minute when a pass from Jeremy Mathieu fell into the path of Neymar, who grabbed his second of he game.
The Brazilian confirmed why the Barcelona management are conidering making him the third highest earner in football when he held on to the ball after shaking off two defenders to lay a superb pass across to Messi, who merely had to do a simple tap-in to grab the team’s fourth of the night on the 90th-minute mark.
The latest win takes Barcelona nine points clear of bitter rivals, Real Madrid, who make a trip to Eibar on Sunday.
