A newborn has made a triumphant entry into the world after he was born holding the contraceptive coil his mother used in preventing his pregnancy.
Hai Phong International Hospital in the city of Hai Phong in northern Vietnam witnessed a miracle in medicine after a baby defied all odds to be born despite the contraceptive measures the mother took to avoid getting pregnant.
The newborn who has become an international sensation clasped Intra Uterine device (IUD) otherwise known as contraceptive coil in the palm of his hand.
IUD is known to be a device which prevents sperm from fertilizing a woman’s eggs.
However, the use of an IUD did not stop the mother of two from getting pregnant again.
Explaining this medical phenomenon, Obstetrician Tran Viet Phuong said it was possible the contraceptive coil shifted from the original position which allowed the 34-year-old woman to become pregnant with a third child.
He was so amused by the baby’s firm grip on the device, he could not resist the urge to take a picture.
“After delivery, I thought him holding the device was interesting, so I took a picture. I never thought it would receive so much attention.” said the obstetrician who took his delivery
Meanwhile, the woman who already has two children said she installed the IUD two years earlier but was surprised to discover she had become pregnant again while the contraceptive was still in her body.
