New UK Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak has promised to fix the economy, unite the Conservative Party, and deliver for the country.
Sunak made this known in a statement published on Twitter hours before he won the race to lead the Conservative Party on Monday.
The 42-year-old former Chancellor of the Exchequer emerged as Tory leader after challenger and Leader of the House of Commons, Penny Mordaunt failed to gain enough support from fellow members of parliament to enter the race.
Former Prime Minister, Boris Johnson also declined calls to join the race, citing inappropriate timing.
Chairman of the 1922 Committee, Sir Graham Brady announced that only one nomination was received for the party leadership backed by 100 MPs.
Brady announced Sunak as the party leader, and consequently next Prime Minister.
The committee chairman said that the new Conservative Party leader would address MPs later today.
