Remo in Ogun State has begotten a new traditional ruler.
Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, was appointed the new monarch of Remoland by seven kingmakers at the King’s Palace, Sagamu, Ogun state on Thursday.
The new Akarigbo, who will succeed the old king who died in London last July, beat 18 other candidates to the historical throne in a open and transparent ballot system.
The election, which was supervised by the secretary to the Sagamu local government area Mr. Adewale Fakoya, had the kingmakers casting their votes openly while the name of the candidates were read out.
The kingmakers include Rasak Akinyemi Salami (Lisa), AbdulWasiu Awofala (Losi), Taiwo Sule (Oluwo Odofin), Lamidi Adesanya (Apena), Ogunyemi Adesina (Ogbeni odi), Kolawole Odumuyiwa (Balogun) and Olotu Adekunle (Olotu Omoba Akarigbo).
After the end of election, the Losi of Sagamu, Mr. Awofala, moved the motion to forward the name of the elected Akarigbo to the government and this was seconded by Mr. Odumuyiwa, the Balogun.
And later, Sagamu local government released a statement that proclaimed Mr Ajayi the new Akarigbo of Remoland.
“The result of the election revealed that Prince Adewale Ajayi emerged the new Akarigbo of Remoland with 5 votes, Prof. Babatunde Ogunmola had two votes while other 17 nominees had no vote.” the statement read.
The new monarch is a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, a chartered accountant and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria.
