Socio-political commentator and Senator for Kaduna Central in the 8th Senate, Shehu Sani says any attempt to split the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) would fail.
He stated this while reacting to the decision of some Northern lawyers to form a ‘new Nigerian Bar Association’.
In a statement by Barr Nuhu Ibrahim, Esq and Abdulbasit Suleiman, Esq, the lawyers said they formed the new body in reaction to the main body’s alleged peddling of sectional interest.
They particularly took exception to the main NBA leadership’s decision to disinvite Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, who had earlier been invited as a speaker to its Annual General Conference (AGC).
They said the date for the formal inauguration of the new NBA would soon be made known to the public.

Reacting, Sani said previous attempts to split established unions and associations such as the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) all failed.
He predicted the failure of the new venture in a tweet on Friday.
Sani wrote, “All attempts in the past to factionalize established organizations like ASUU,NLC,NANS and NUJ has always failed.”
