The acting Director General of the Department of State Security (DSS), Matthew Seiyefa, has promised to conduct investigations into alleged human rights abuse by the agency.
He made this known during a news conference in Abuja on Thursday.
Recall that Seiyefa was appointed on Tuesday after Acting President Yemi Osinbajo sacked Lawal Daura for ordering the invasion of the National Assembly Complex without authorisation.
The DSS under Daura and other previous administrations has been accused of spate of human rights abuses, including arbitrary arrest and forced disappearance, torture and others.

But Seiyefa has promised to ensure the agency adopts a different approach under his tenure.
The new DG DSS noted that some of the issues that are of concern include the alleged detention and trial of criminal suspects in the country.
While reiterating his stance to lead the organisation by the rule of law, he assured Nigerians that the agency would not allow itself be intimidated in the discharge of its duties.
He stressed that the agency would protect the legitimate rights of all Nigerians without promoting the individual rights of any person above the interest of the country.
Furthermore, he vowed to work more closely with other security agencies to enhance the security of the nation.
