A new Commissioner of Police, Mr Douglas Agbonleni, has resumed duty in Enugu State, three weeks after the retirement of his predecessor , Mr Emmanuel Ojukwu.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Ebere Amaraizu, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Saturday.

“The Enugu State Police Command wishes to inform members of the public particularly good people of Enugu State that the command now has a new Commissioner of Police, Mr Douglas Agbonleni.

“Before now, Agbonleni, was the commissioner of police in-charge of welfare at Force Headquarters Abuja.

“He is vast in policing activities having served the organisation in various capacities,’’ he said.

NAN reports that Agbonleni would replace the retired Commissioner of Police, Mr Emmanuel Ojukwu, who pulled out of the force officially on the ground of retirement after serving for 32 years.

Meanwhile, the new Commissioner, Agbonleni, visited Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi with some key officers of the command after arriving late on Friday night.

Amaraizu said that the newly posted commissioner was warmly welcomed by the state governor.

“Gov. Ugwuanyi urged him to bring his policing experience to bear in the state to ensure the safety of lives and property as well as peace co-existence of its residents,’’ he said. (NAN)
