The Government of Benue State has confirmed a Friday attack on some communities in the state.
In a Saturday press statement, Terver Akase, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Samuel Ortom, disclosed that ten corpses have so far been recovered from affected areas.
He identified the affected communities as Tse-Abi, Tse-Ginde, Tse-Peviv, Tse-Ikyo, Agenke and Gbenke in Saghev, Guma Local Government Area of the state.
Houses and shops were said to have been burnt at will, with no security personnel around to mitigate the disaster.
According to the statement, the assailants wreaked havoc at night.
Akase described the attacks as “unprovoked”.
He said, “Ten corpses have so far been recovered with many others injured. The armed herdsmen also burnt numerous houses, shops and other property in the area.
“This mindless attack was unprovoked, and we urge security agencies to arrest the herdsmen behind the killings for prosecution.”
The Benue State Police Command has yet to confirm the attack.
