Streaming giant Netflix is making a splash in the Nigerian film industry with the announcement of their new Yoruba movie, “House of Ga’a.”
Leading the cast is the highly celebrated Funke Akindele, affectionately known as Nigeria’s “Box Office Queen.” Akindele, known for her powerhouse performances in films like “Jenifa” and “Omo Ghetto The Saga,” brings her undeniable talent to the project. Joining her are the equally talented Femi Branch and Toyin Abraham.
The film is directed by the accomplished Bolanle Austen Peters. Peters’ previous work, “Man of God,” found critical and commercial success on Netflix in 2022.
Details surrounding the plot remain under wraps, but the film is confirmed to explore the life and times of Bashorun Ga’a, a powerful figure in the 18th-century Oyo Empire. Hints of a “kingmaker” suggest a story rife with intrigue, power struggles, and the complexities of leadership within a historical context.
While an official release date hasn’t been announced, the news of “House of Ga’a” has already generated significant buzz among fans of historical dramas, Yoruba cinema, and Nollywood in general.
