NEMA donates relief materials to windstorm victims in Kebbi

The Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Alhaji Mustapha Mai-Hajja, on Tuesday presented relief materials to 1,300 victims of wind storm in Maiyama Local Government Area of Kebbi.

Mai-Hajja, who led a delegation of officials of the agency on a courtesy visit to the Governor of the state, Alhaji Atiku Bagudu, said the materials included 200 bags of rice, 200 bags of maize, 200 bags of beans and 300 blankets.

Other materials, he said were,300 insecticide treated mosquito nets,300 ceiling boards,300 bags of cement, 300 cartons of roofing nails and 300 roofing sheets.

Mai-Hajja said though the materials were not complete replacement of the property lost in the windstorm, they reduce the hardship the victims were facing.

 

 

He promised that NEMA would sustain the cordial relationship with state emergency agencies to provide relief to victims of natural and human error disasters.

The NEMA boss, however, appealed to the victims to ensure prudent utilisation of the materials.

Responding, Bagudu, commended the agency for assisting the victims and assured that the state government would make effort to provide additional support to them.

He appealed to NEMA to assist the state on flood disaster issues, stressing that the state water bodies, covering about 700 kilometers, caused flood disaster.

 

 

The Chairman of the state emergency management agency, Alhaji Sani Dododo, also commended NEMA for the provision of the materials, adding that they would go a long way to augment efforts of the state government in providing relief for victims of disasters.

Bagudu later assisted Mai-Hajja in presenting the materials to some of the victims. (NAN).
