Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a suspected drug trafficker, Egwuh Inya, over an attempt to take delivery of cannabis concealed in pressure machines imported from South Africa.
According to a statement released on Sunday by NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, the 42-year-old building engineer was apprehended on December 2 at the Okeyson Motor Park in Enugu. The agency revealed that Inya had gone to collect three pressure machines containing parcels of Loud, a synthetic strain of cannabis, weighing 7.40 kilograms.
The consignment had arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on November 29, 2024. Following credible intelligence, NDLEA operatives monitored the shipment through the clearing process to a logistics company’s warehouse outside the airport. The pickup location was later changed to Enugu, leading to a follow-up operation and Inya’s arrest.
In a separate operation in Adamawa State, NDLEA operatives recovered 511,000 pills of tramadol from a Siena vehicle abandoned along the Askira-Uba Road in the early hours of Friday. The occupants reportedly fled upon sighting the NDLEA patrol team.
Additionally, two suspects, Olanrewaju Alale (48) and Babatunde Kayode Ijadahun (55), were arrested in Ekiti State while transporting 108 jumbo bags of cannabis weighing 1,323 kilograms in a J5 bus along the Ise-Emure Road. They claimed the consignment was destined for the northern region.
In Oyo State, another suspect, Adekunle Yusuf (33), was arrested on December 6 with 704 kilograms of cannabis concealed in white sacks along Idere Road in Igboora.
The NDLEA also reported an arrest in Lagos State involving a 65-year-old grandmother, Ramata Bola Adeyemo, found in possession of 20.6 liters of codeine-based syrup at 62 Odunfa Street, Lagos Island, on December 6. On December 5, operatives apprehended Alhaji Lawan Manga in Ikeja with 4.7 kilograms of cannabis and 1.3 kilograms of tramadol.
The NDLEA has reiterated its commitment to combating drug trafficking and ensuring public safety.
