Kogi and Cross River states have less than 10 sample tests for COVID-19 combined, a situation report released by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has shown.

According to the May 18 report released today, Kogi has submitted one sample test while the South-South state has submitted seven since the country recorded its index case of the deadly virus on February 27.

The report showed that the two states have conducted the least number of COVID-19 tests and have recorded no positive cases.

So far, Nigeria has 36,899 samples tested out of which 6,175 tested positive while 1,644 cases have been discharged and 191 fatalities recorded.

The report showed that 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have recorded positive cases, with Lagos leading by the number of cases and fatalities.

Controversy was generated last week after some NCDC officials that visited Kogi left and the Yahaya Bello administration claimed that they fled because they did not want to subject themselves to COVID-19 tests.

“It was drama today (May 8) at the Kogi State Government House as officials of the National Center for Disease Control sent to ascertain the COVID-19 status flee the state.

“The Officials said they were not ready to be tested for COVID-19 and went back to Abuja.

“Today, the Governor showed the statesmanship in him once again by appreciating the support of the NCDC and defending the health interests of his people,” Kogi State Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, stated.
