2 Min Read

The Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) has begun to sensitise consumers, service providers and regulators in Zamfara to contemporary issues affecting the growth of the industry.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 23rd edition of NCC Telecoms Consumer Town Hall Meeting, tagged “Information and Education as a catalyst for consumer protection”, held at Maryam Abacha Multi-purpose hall in Gusau.

The Director, Consumer Affairs Bureau of the commission, Mr Abdullahi Maikano, said the meeting was aimed at educating telecom consumers and other stakeholders on contemporary issues emanating from the attention of telecommunication industries.

“This programme was introduced by NCC to bring together consumers services providers and the regulators on one platform to address telecom consumers related issues.

“In the NCC, the telecom consumers are the targeted beneficiary of all our activities and enjoy primary focus in terms of ensuring that they are provided with good quality of services, value for money, timely and fair redress of complaint.”

Maikano said the theme was carefully chosen to reflect one of the cardinal objectives of the NCC in ensuring the protection of telecom consumers from market exploitation and empowering them to make rational and informed decision on choices of service.

NAN reports that many telecom consumers who spoke at the meeting lamented unnecessary deductions in their accounts by service providers.

The stakeholders urged the NCC to take necessary measures to stop use of telecom services by criminals in carrying out criminals activities. (NAN)
