2 Min Read

National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has fined popular news agencies ; Channels TV, Arise News and AIT over the reportage of #EndSARS protests.

Armstrong Idachaba, Acting Director-General of the Commisson made this known in a press conference on Monday Oct 26.

According to Idachaba, the sanctions became imperative after the media organizations engaged in “gross violation of the broadcast code, top of which is the use of unverifiable online video footages on social media”.

Each of the above mentioned stations are to pay N3,000,000 each for violating the Broadcasting code, according to Sahara Reporters.

He noted that DAAR communications, Parent company to AIT will be sanctioned separately for airing an unverified video of the fire incident at National Christian Centre .

It would be recalled that NBC last week sounded a note of warning to radio and TV stations not to embarrass the government in their coverage of #EndSARS protests.

However, several eyewitness captured different footages of the protest which was hijacked by hoodlums allegedly sponsored by politicians.
