Hoops & Read Basketball Club of Lagos on Saturday won their last match in the Atlantic Conference at the ongoing Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) Division One Championship in Abuja.
They beat Anambra Flames 49-45 to maintain their group leadership position and advance to Sunday’s final match.
After the match, Olumide Oyedeji, the handler of Hoops & Read, said it was a tough game to win for his team.
“We tried very hard to get all the 18 points available in the conference, and it was seen as being ward.
“This was one of our worst games in the tournament but we still won. However, we will do better in the final match,” he said.
Bolaji Emilagba, a Hoops & Read player, said it was a different game exactly.
“We came into the game like we were going to just pick the win and go home but it turned out differently.
“Those guys (Anambra Flames) came out to play, it was a tough one. It was just like a ping-pong match. At a time we were leading and later they caught up with us and started leading.
“We had a good game, it was fine but we are going to play a different game tomorrow,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that in another match at the competition, Abuja All Stars won their last match in the Savannah Conference against Yobe Desert Warriors.
They now finished second in the group after the Defenders.
NAN reports that Hoops will now lock horns with The Defenders for the gold trophy while Abuja All Stars will face Police Baton or Raptors, both from Lagos, on Sunday. (NAN)
