Navy restates commitment to improving personnel welfare

The Nigerian Navy

The Nigerian Navy on Saturday restated its commitment to improving the welfare of personnel for effective and efficient service delivery.

The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice-Adm. Ibok-Ete Ibas, stated this at the end of Navy’s second quarter route march in Abuja.

Ibas, who was represented by the Group Managing Director, Navy Holdings Limited, Rear-Adm. Babalola Egbedina, explained that the exercise was to keep the personnel fit and ready for challenges of the job.

“Here in Abuja, and in our other commands, efforts are being made to ensure that the personnel who are behind the equipment are physically fit.

“Physically fit personnel are less likely to commit blunders while operating their equipment. So, physical fitness is just the sole reason for the exercise,’’ he said.

Ibas added that the exercise would also present the personnel the opportunity to get together, saying that it was designed as to be a quarterly programme.

“A military personnel who is not mentally and physically fit will find it difficult to discharge his or her responsibilities as expected of him or her,’’ he said.

He said that the commands of the service were engaged in preparations for testing of some naval equipment, adding that officers and men displayed the capability of the navy during its recent diamond jubilee celebration.
