More than six billion naira dubious contracts in the appropriated bill for the National Inland Waterways Agency (NIWA) in 2017 and 2019 budgets have been uncovered by National Assembly.
The committee on the Inland Waterways, Land Transport, Ports & Harbors, Marine Safety and Education and the Senate Committee on Marine Transport made this known on Monday, October 21.
The lawmaker said the majority of the projects for which funds were released in the budget were never execute.
Daily Trust reports that the discrepancies were noticed by the committee which said that the majority of the projects for which funds were released in the budget were never executed.
According to the committee during the joint sitting for the 2019/2020 budget defence by the Federal Ministry of Transportation and NIWA, the non-existing projects were worth N6 billion.
These project the committee said includes, acquisition of Vessels and Barges and procurement of dredgers and other equipment.
