NASS Should Partner With The Presidency For Good Governance – Okowa

3 Min Read

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has challenged members of the National Assembly to partner with the presidency to deliver good governance to Nigerians.

The governor made this call when a delegation of the Senate paid a courtesy visit on him to commiserate with Deltans, the state government and the Itsekiri people on the demise of the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwase II.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Senator Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya said they would, aside paying a condolence visit to the governor, also visit the Itsekiri ethnic nationality to commiserate with them on the demise of the monarch.

The governor, while thanking the Senate for the visit, charged them to use their wealth of experience in diverse fields to proffer solutions to Nigeria’s myriad economic problems.

Okowa said: “We are in very trying times and we believe that with the kind of men we have both in the Senate and in the House of Representatives, that you will help us think through to find ways of stabilizing both the resources and the governance of our nation in such a manner that will be in the best interest of our people.”

“There is a lot of pain on ground nationally, it is not something that we believe there is a quick fix to, but, the exposure that most of the Senators and other members of the National Assembly have had made them to stand a good chance in being able to partner with the executive arm of government to proffer solutions to the current challenges that we face as a nation,” he noted.

The governor said: “At this very trying times in the history of our nation when the oil prices have gone very low and things are quite difficult, we will always rely on the National Assembly to stand up to help create solutions.”

The delegation was made up of Senators Godswill Akpabio, Kabiru Gaya, Isiaka Adeleke, James Manager, Ighoyota Amori, Peter Nwaoboshi, among others.
