The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has urged students to be more security conscious to avoid being victims of cult and terror attacks.
The association gave this charge in a statement signed by the Chairman of the Lagos State Chapter, Comrade Sanusi Sulaimon, at the First Students’ Leadership Security Summit of NANS JCC, Lagos Axis.
According to the body, personal security is a task that cannot be “delegated”.
Sulaimon said the Lagos chapter embarked on a students’ security tour to various security apparatuses in the state, where it met with the heads of the state commands of the various security agencies with the aim of strengthening relations.
This, he said, was complemented by a students’ security summit organised by the student leaders to sensitize tertiary students against the dangers inherent in criminality, vandalism, insurgency and terrorism.
While sympathising with the families of students who lost their lives to terrorism and ancillary situations, the student body appealed to the government to ensure that the security of students is given top priority.
“This is just the beginning of the security program; as from next year we won’t hesitate to move our evangelism on security consciousness to our students in the primary and secondary school level to ensure that they are being fed with the ideology of protecting the lives and property of their parents, neighbours and the nation,” Sulaimon said.
