House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has in a letter denied President Trump the opportunity to deliver the state of Union address to congress.
“I am writing to inform you that the House of Representatives will not consider a concurrent resolution authorizing the President’s State of the Union address in the House chamber until government has opened,” Pelosi wrote.
She did say that the President would be more than welcome to make his address once the record-breaking Government shutdown is over.
As for Trump’s reaction, he stated that Pelosi’s move was of no surprise to him whatsoever.

“I’m not surprised. It’s really a shame what’s happening with the Democrats. They’ve become radicalized,” he told reporters.
Trump had written a letter to the House Speaker in which he accepted her invitation to speak at the State of the Union and also rejected her suggestion that the address be postponed.
“Therefore, I will be honoring your invitation, and fulfilling my constitutional duty, to deliver important information to the people and to the Congress of the United States of America regarding the State of our Union,” Trump wrote.
“It would be so very sad for our Country if the State of the Union were not delivered on time, on schedule, and very importantly, on location!”
The two legislative arms (The house and the Senate) will now have to vote on resolutions which would either see Trump invited to give the address or rejected.
