The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on Monday said it had seized unregistered and expired drugs worth N1 million from Niger state.
Mr Anikoh Ibrahim, the State Coordinator of NAFDAC, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna that they were seized when they raided patent shops in Minna, Paiko, Edati, Mokwa and Borgu areas during the month.
“These drugs are worth N1 million in market value, some of them have no NAFDAC registration numbers, while others have expired, ’’he said.
Ibrahim said that the exercises were carried out during an ongoing routine check on patent medicine stores across the state.
“It is going to be a continuous exercise to ensure that the health of our people is assured; we can’t afford to play with the health of the citizens.
“We will continue with the raid until we have rid the state of unregistered and expired drugs and their dealers sanctioned by law enforcement agencies, ’’he said.
He said that the arrested defaulters had been warned and made to pay fines depending on their offences. (NAN)
