Argentine and Barcelona captain Lionel Messi says his only goal in football now is to win the World Cup.
The 33-year-old has recorded massive success at club level with Barcelona, winning every major competition he has contested several times.
He is also a record Ballon D’Or winner, winning the highly-coveted personal title six times.
However, he has yet to lift any title with the Argentina senior team, an anomaly he would like to correct at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
“The only goal I have now is to win the World Cup with the national team,” he stated.
Messi came winning grasp of the trophy in 2014, losing narrowly to Germany in the final.
His push for a final shot at the World Cup begins Thursday with Argentina’s clash against Ecuador followed by an encounter with Bolivia next Tuesday.
If successful in the qualifying rounds, he would be 35 when the global showpiece holds in the Middle East in 2022, his last realistic shot at the title.
