Former Governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu has revealed how his mother, Eunice Uzor Kalu, warned him against supporting the governorship ambition of his successor, Chief T.A Orji.
Kalu, who was Abia governor between 1999 and 2007, appointed Orji as his Chief of Staff before backing his governorship ambition in 2007.
The duo have since falling out over political differences.
But in an interview with Daily Sun, Kalu, who is the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Abia North senatorial seat, said that although many people supported his decision to make Orji governor, his mother kicked against it.
He said, “I trusted people so much and they stabbed me in the back. Some of the people blaming me for making T.A. Orji governor supported the decision.
“The only person who asked me not to support T.A. Orji, based on what she saw earlier, was my mother. It is on record.
“Every other person, including senators who are today blaming me for making T.A. governor, were the supporters who asked me to put him there. I didn’t put him there to close my back because I had no back to be closed, but I put him because we were in a political war with Obasanjo then and I never wanted to leave office without showing him that we could install the governor of our state; so, T.A. Orji was the material we picked.
“That was the issue and people did not vote for him because he was T.A. He was in prison then. They voted for him because of me, and that is on record.”
