Popular entertainer and activist, Charles Oputa aka Charly Boy has said that the much-anticipated 2019 general election might not hold amidst the diverse security challenges bedevilling the nation.
Charly Boy, the Convener of Our Mumu Don Do movement, expressed his concern during a protest in the Isolo area of Lagos organised by Catalyst for Global Peace and Justice Initiative in collaboration with the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights and Transition Monitoring Group, among others.
The protest was organised to demand action on abductions and terrorism in the North-East and other parts of the country.
Charly Boy said the Federal Government must address the security challenges before the election to ensure hitch-free polls.
Furthermore, he lambasted the government of President Muhammadu Buhari for failing to tackle the security challenges in the country, especially Boko Haram, despite promising to do so in the build-up to the 2015 polls.
“How can I forget the killing of Liman Hauwa and Sairura Khorsa, while so many other girls are still in the captivity of Boko Haram? Nigeria has turned to a jungle that human lives no longer mean anything to us. See how people are being slaughtered under the very watch of the very man who promised to stop terrorism,” he said.
