Mr Terkimbi Ikyange, Speaker, Benue House of Assembly, said on Sunday that his constituents have asked him to “move” to the House of Representatives in 2019.
“My people want me to represent them at the House of Representatives in 2019; they want me to contest the Kwande/Ushongo Federal Constituency seat and I have heeded their call,” he said in Adikpo, Kwande Local Government.
Ikyange spoke at a ceremony organised by a political group, Kwande/Ushongo United Groups for Ikyange 2019, to honour him.
The speaker said that he would always abide by the wishes of his constituents, promising to always work according to the desires and wishes of the youths.
“I am for the youths and will never disappoint them; I will always serve them and listen to them,” he said.
He pledged to shore up the living conditions of his people through quality legislation that could enhance good governance, noting that quality legislation was key to transforming the society.
“Good legislation can enhance the fortunes of the people because quality laws can facilitate projects that will create wealth and employment,” he said.
He promised to attract projects to both Kwande and Ushongo state constituencies by working in harmony with the executive, and urged the people to feel free to offer suggestions that could assist that quest.
The Chairman of the occasion, Mr Terlumun Akputu, in a remark, said that it was the turn of Ushongo Local Government to produce the member to represent Kwande/Ushongo Federal Constituency, and advised the incumbent against seeking a return in 2019.
“Going by our political arrangement, the incumbent, who is from Kwande Local Government, should rather contest for the Senate because that is Kwande’s rightful slot,” he said.
Mrs. Caroline Dzeka, a special guest, commended the youths for honouring the law maker, saying that it was “a clear demonstration of love”.
In their remarks, Mr Vincent Uji, Vice Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC), Benue North East zone, and Mr Benjamin Nungwa, Chairman, APC, Kwande West, applauded Ikyange for his exemplary leadership in the Benue House of Assembly.
“You have done well in the Benue State House of Assembly and can be trusted to move to the next level,” he said. (NAN)
