More lives would have been lost during the infamous attack on some villages in Barkin Ladi LGA of Plateau State had a Muslim imam not intervened.
Although the attack reportedly claimed over 200 lives, the unnamed imam saved the lives of many more by hiding them in his personal house and mosque in Nghar Yelwa village.
According to BBC Pidgin, the unnamed imam said, “I first took the women to my personal house to hide them there, then, I took the men to the mosque to hide.”
He added that the persons he his were over 200.
Some armed men reportedly approached the cleric and asked him to identify the Christians among the group but he lied that they were all Muslims.
He then reportedly laid flat and began to roll on the ground while begging the armed men to leave.
