Barely a week and counting since Hamas’ unprecedented multifront attack on Israel, world leaders are reacting as Muslim Awareness International (MAI) director, AbdulWaheed Atoyebi formally calls for immediate resolution.
The Herald recalls how a surprise attack by Hamas on Israeli communities Saturday morning led to an all-out war between both parties. Analysts described it as the biggest attack Hamas launched on Israel in years with many killed and hostages taken. The attack included gunmen entering Israeli towns after a barrage of rockets fired from the Gaza Strip.
Israel said Hamas has declared war and in response, it mobilized its army and its air force launched strikes on Gaza with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promising harsh retaliation.
But, Muslim Awareness International (MAI) a leading advocate for human rights and global peace has called for an immediate resolution.
World Has Turned Deaf Ears To The Cry Of Palestinians Says MAI
Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, the group condemns the ongoing violation of human rights and urges the international community to take decisive action to protect the lives and dignity of the Palestinian people.
The group in its call for peace noted that the world has continued to turn deaf ears to the cry of Palestinians, called on Israel to respect the rights of Palestinians to live in peace, security, and dignity, and to immediately cease all actions that perpetuate violence and human rights abuses.
AbdulWaheed Atoyebi reads in part, “We strongly condemn the ongoing violation of human rights by Israel and the alarming number of killings in Palestine. We call for an immediate end to the violence and urge the international community to take decisive action to protect the lives and dignity of the Palestinian people because the world has continued to turn deaf ears to the cry of Palestinians and to take decisive action on illegal occupation of Palestinian land by ISREAL for over seven decades has been the bane of this crisis.
“We express our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people during this difficult time. The loss of innocent lives is a tragedy that cannot be ignored, and we call on all parties involved to exercise restraint and seek peaceful solutions through dialogue and negotiation.
“It is imperative that Israel, as the occupying power, uphold its obligations under international law, including the Fourth Geneva Convention, which prohibits the collective punishment of civilians, the demolition of homes, and the forced displacement of Palestinians. We urge Israel to respect the rights of Palestinians to live in peace, security, and dignity, and to immediately cease all actions that perpetuate violence and human rights abuses.
Furthermore, we call on the international community, including the United Nations, to take immediate action to protect the rights of Palestinians and ensure accountability for the violations committed. The international community and Nigerian government must work together to bring an end to the cycle of violence and support a just and lasting solution in the Middle East”.
