Muhammed Daura, an All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart and kinsman of President Muhammed Buhari has advised the President to resign from his position as the minister of Petroleum resources.
Daura said this had become imperative as a result of the lingering fuel scarcity in the country.
The NNPC is the heart of Nigeria, whether we like it or not. It is not a place we will joke with it, if the NNPC today has problem, Nigeria has problem because more than 85 or 90 per cent of our earnings comes from this sector.
“So I think it’s high time the president resigned as Minister of Petroleum to concentrate on other duties.”
“We, the people of Daura, are seriously concerned with the lingering fuel scarcity bedevilling the country.
‘Today the president is handling over 109 agencies including the NNPC and at the same time managing the ministry. It means all the heads of these agencies report to him. So the burden is too much for him.
‘What we are saying is when will he have time to meet with the NNPC management? And look at the security challenges we are facing today, is that not a serious thing for him?”
‘So we are calling on him to look for a competent person from anywhere and appoint him Minister so that the country can move forward.
‘There are many Nigerians with the requisite experience and knowledge from the North and South that can be invited to join the cabinet,” he stressed.
