Bad MTN! I mean where they do that at? Oh yeah, Nigeria. And by that I simply mean where can one company charge you 400% markup for Data.
It’s a slap in the face to Nigerian Internet users that the telecommunications companies charge us an arm and a leg for Data. All of them are a rip off, and I see a lot of tweeps complaints about how they’re getting ripped off by their data plan with the large Nigerian telcos.
So I’m going to do an act of charity for two classes of people here, the subscribers being ripped off by the obscene and irresponsible cost of data, and companies like Spectranet, that give you a helluva lot of data for a fraction of the cost. Why? Because this is a free advert for them! But they sure do deserve it! 🙂
Personally I’m on a plan with Spectranet and I pay N12,000 for 40GB a month. According to information found on MTN, a similar plan with them would cost N52,500. Granted according to the fine print, it seems MTN will provide a bonus 35GB data. However I could still top up my Spectranet plan and pay only N24,ooo. That’s still more than 50% off the MTN sticker price.
Infact Spectranet would provide me with 120GB for N45,000. For MTN to match a similar deal, there would need to be an evacuation of the whole District 9 mindset at Corporate HQ.
The truth is Nigerians deserve a better deal from the companies (domestic and international) that are providing us services, and making a fortune.
