Mr Controversy: I Will No Longer Respect Journalists If… – Mourinho

2 Min Read

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has expressed his frustration at the way the media are blowing controversies involving him out of proportion.

Mourinho was reacting to reports on a video in the media space in which he was allegedly shown to have shoved a young fan.

According to a Chelsea spokesperson, Mourinho’s legal team are already looking into the incident.

The BBC reports that the boy himself filmed the video that appeared to show Mourinho walking behind him but it became shaky and blurry as the Portuguese came closer.

“While Jose understands the laws pertaining to filming in public places, the two teenagers in question followed him from his home for 20 minutes and constantly interrupted a private phone call,” the Chelsea spokesperson was quoted as saying by the BBC.

The Chelsea spokesperson, who described the actions as “overly intrusive”, said there were two boys involved.

In his response to media reports on the ‘shoving’ incident, Mourinho said: “I am going to treat your [media] bosses the way they treat me; no respect, no respect.

“You don’t get good and funny headlines from me now,” noted Mourinho. “I am not talking about football. I am ready to accept any kind of critics, even the stupid ones.

“I am talking about private lives and stupid things that you bring to light, I don’t like it. We go to a different level of professional relationship now,” the BBC quoted him as saying.

Mourinho has been a subject of several controversies already this season, including banishing team doctor Eva Caneiro from the team’s bench and calling a referee “afraid” for failing to award a penalty in Chelsea’s 3-1 loss to Southampton earlier in the month. The latter incident fetched him a £50,000 fine from the English FA.

Chelsea face West Ham on Saturday as they try to navigate their way out of their worst start to the EPL since 1978-79.
