2 Min Read

A young man, Gbenga, has killed himself after beating his mother to death in the Akoko North East Local government area of Ondo State.

Reports revealed that Gbenga had been in a prolonged argument with his mother in Akure, last Thursday.

Eventually, their argument led to a physical fight in which Gbenga succeeded in ending his mother’s life.

He then absconded from their residence in Akure to another family house in Ikare Akoko, where he subsequently took his own life by hanging himself.

Gbenga’s mother is said to have given birth to five children, three of which she had in her first marriage to Gbenga’s father in Ikare before she relocated to Akure where she gave birth to two more.

A source stated, “Gbenga, after killing his mother in Akure on Thursday, escaped to Ikare Akoko where he stayed with his grandmother at Oyinmo Quarters.  When he suspected that efforts were being made to hand him over to the police, he sneaked into the kitchen at about 3 am on Friday to hang himself while everybody in the house was asleep.

“It was a relation, who wanted to go to use the restroom in the morning that saw his lifeless body dangling and raised the alarm.”

After confirming the incidence, the Police Public relations officer in Ondo state, Femi Joseph, explained that investigations into the matter had begun already.
