A Magistrate court in Malaysia has sentenced a mother of two to jail for allegedly insulting Prophet Mohammed on three counts.
On May 4th 2016, she was witnessed by three people, Abdul Rahim Mat Diah, 53, Mohd Yunos Harun, 73 and Mohd Halim Buyong, 44, to have insulted Prophet Mohammed in the prayer hall of Abu Ubaidah Mosque.
Fadhli Ab Wahab, the prosecuting lawyer stated that the offence was a serious one and should not be committed by anyone whether Muslims or non-Muslims as in Malaysia, every religion must be respected.
However, the defense lawyer, WC Chiang urged the Court to reduce her sentence as his client is a mother of two children and also has parents to take care of.
The accused, Tham Yut Moo,46 was not only sentenced to six months in prison, but will also pay a fine of RM15,000 and if she fails to pay the fine she would be sentenced to an additional three months in prison.
The alleged offence by which she was charged is punishable by a maximum jail term of one year or fine or both is under the Section 298 of the Penal Code.
The court has postponed the sentence pending an appeal and a bail of RM5,000 and a surety.
