Mother Of Kidnapped Lagos School Girl Collapses After Marathon Fasting

2 Min Read

The mother of one of the school girls abducted from the Babington Macaulay Junior Seminary (BMJS), Ikorodu, Lagos, has collapsed after she reportedly engaged in four days of fasting to intercede for the girls’ safe return.

She was however rushed to a nearby hospital in in the mainland area of Lagos, where she was revived, The Nation reports.

Recall that three girls: Timilehin Olusa, Tofunmi Popoolaniyan and Deborah Akinayo, were abducted from the school on Monday by hoodlums suspected to be oil pipeline vandals, who entered the school through a defect in its perimeter fencing.

The un-named woman reportedly collapsed following her unwillingness to break her dry fasting, after the authorities failed to rescue the girls by Friday as promised.

A source said the collapsed woman’s family had already raised a million naira out of the N10 million demanded by the kidnappers, a figure that they originally pegged at N200 million.

“She has also been fasting since the girls were kidnapped. The kidnappers are still insisting on N10million. They have refused all pleas to accept the one million Naira the family has raised,” the source told The Nation.

The Lagos State Police Command’s spokesperson, Dolapo Badmos has however denied any knowledge of the collapse, and assured that  the police were working tirelessly to ensure the girls’ safe return.
