Mother Sentenced To Life For Beheading 5-Year-Old Daughter

3 Min Read

A Texas mom has been sentenced to life without parole for stabbing and beheading her 5-year-old daughter, according to the Hays County District Attorney’s Office.

27-year-old Krystle Villanueva was arrested on Jan. 5, 2017, after Hays County deputies were called to her home at Kyle, Texas, and discovered she had stabbed and beheaded her 5-year-old daughter.

Hays County Sheriff Gary Cutler said: “I’ve been in this line of work for over 43 years — 11 years as a homicide detective,

“This is one of the worst cases I’ve ever seen and been a part of.”

According to the District Attorney’s Office, Villanueva’s father-in-law called 911 on Jan. 5, 2017, to report that she stabbed him in the back without warning.

The father-in-law fled and crisis negotiators came to the Kyle, Texas, home when police learned the woman’s 5-year-old daughter was still with her inside.

Beheading

The woman also called 911 and said she killed her daughter, Giovanna Hernandez, because “she asked for cereal,” Mau said in a statement.

The SWAT team broke into the home and restrained Villanueva, who was naked, according to the district attorney.

The 5-year-old girl was found stabbed and beheaded in a bedroom. During the two-week trial, Villanueva’s defense urged the jury to find her not guilty by reason of insanity, according to the district attorney’s office but the jury rejected the plea.
She was found guilty of capital murder of a child under 10 and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
According to the press release: “Ms. Villanueva claimed that, at the time of the attacks, she had been under the delusional belief that her daughter and her father-in-law had been replaced by clones and had to be killed to bring back her real family members,”
“A case like this leaves an unforgettable mark on everyone involved, especially the child’s family,” Hays County Criminal District Attorney Wes Mau said.
He added: “Every law enforcement member who worked on this case will forever be traumatized by what Ms. Villanueva did to her innocent daughter. I commend all the investigators and officers who endured this horror with calm professionalism so that justice could be done.”
