Morocco stripped of 2015 African Nations Cup and disqualified by CAF

2 Min Read

Morocco will not host the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, the Confederation of Africa Football have confirmed.

Members of the body met on Tuesday in a bid to find a solution to their Nation’s cup problems.

They recently rejected host Morocco’s request for the tournament to be postponed and later stripped the country of its hosting rights.

CAF has also expelled Morocco from the tournament which they had qualified for as hosts.

Morocco were hesitant about hosting the Nation’s Cup due to fears of a possible Ebola outbreak.

CAF are pressing on regardless with its plan to host the competition on the scheduled dates of January 17 – February 8.

The governing body have declared that they have received several offers from countries to step in as hosts.

Both Egypt and South Africa have announced their unwillingness to host the 2015 tournament, while Ghana recently turned down the opportunity.

“The representation we have received from people in the health sector [means] it doesn’t look [like] Ghana is in a position to accepting hosting the tournament and we have conveyed this message to CAF,” said sports minister Mahama Ayariga.

The CAF face a serious financial blow if the tournament is cancelled.

Morocco could yet be rocked by further sanctions, with recommendations that their association be stripped of the FIFA Club World Cup – scheduled for December.
