Spanish international forward Alvaro Morata has completed his much publicised transfer to English Premier League (EPL) champions Chelsea in a club record £60m deal.
Morata, 24, has signed a 5-year deal with the Blues after joining from Real Madrid. His transfer eclipses the £50m Chelsea paid Liverpool for Fernando Torres in 2011.
He scored 20 goals last season to help Los Merengues win both UEFA Champions League (UCL) and Spanish La Liga titles though most of his appearances were as a substitute.
On the acquisition of Morata, the club’s technical director Michael Emenalo said: “Alvaro has proven class at the highest level and his quality will be a huge asset.”
The former Juventus man is now expected to team up with his new colleagues in their pre-season tour of Asia.
