Monaco Sign Chelsea Target Golovin for €30m

2 Min Read

Aleksandr Golovin is an AS Monaco Player. The Russian international looked set for Chelsea, but instead opted for the former French champions.

Monaco had to fork out €30 million (£26.5m/$35m) for the 22-year old to prise him from CSKA Moscow.

Golovin was initially going to go to Chelsea, but worries over his playing time made him change his mind as Chelsea still have Willian and Hazard on the books.

The Russian international will undergo a medical on Thursday and will sign a five-year deal with the Ligue 1 side, with his presentation likely to be on Friday.

The 22-year-old was a pivotal part of his country’s progress to the Quarter Final of the World Cup which held in his country and through the competition, he saw his stock rise rather hugely after a number of scintillating displays for the Russian national team.

Chelsea had been in advanced talks with Golovin and a deal looked likely until the Blues signed Jorginho who is another midfield player.

This gave the player some pause as he worried about playing time and he then opted for AS Monaco.

Monaco have lost Thomas Lemar to Atletico Madrid and Fabinho to Liverpool and are a side in which Golovin will certainly see a lot of action.

Chelsea will now have to find another signing also with the possibility of losing Hazard to Real Madrid and Willian to Manchester United.
