Controversial social media activist, VeryDarkMan, has alleged that embattled rapper Naira Marley confessed to owing his late former signee, Mohbad, an undisclosed sum of money prior to the singer’s untimely death.
This revelation comes on the heels of what would have been Mohbad’s 28th birthday. The singer tragically passed away in September 2023 under controversial circumstances after leaving Naira Marley’s Marlian Music label. Mohbad’s departure was reportedly due to the label’s alleged failure to honor their contractual agreement.
The circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death sparked widespread outrage, with many accusing Naira Marley and his associate, Sam Larry, of involvement. A viral video showing Sam Larry assaulting Mohbad further fueled public suspicion.
On October 6, 2023, Naira Marley and Sam Larry were arraigned and remanded over their alleged roles in the singer’s death. Although they pleaded not guilty and were later granted bail, fans have continued to call for justice, with some boycotting Naira Marley’s music.
In a video message circulating online, VeryDarkMan, who has been actively vocal about the case, disclosed that he had spoken directly with Naira Marley about the controversy. According to him, the rapper admitted to owing Mohbad money and detailed the issues that led to their fallout.
“I asked Naira Marley why he is not coming out to show the public his own evidence — the business side — because he clearly owed the boy [Mohbad] some money. He told me how much he owed the boy. It’s not a small amount of money,” VeryDarkMan said.
He added, “Naira Marley said their problem started when Mohbad began working outside the record label’s contract and requested a change in the management the label provided for him. I told him to come out and explain to Nigerians what transpired, but he said God will fight his battles.”
The activist also revealed that he had offered Naira Marley an opportunity to use his platform to share evidence of his innocence, but the rapper declined.
