Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri has faulted the appointment of Mohammed Umar as acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as Ibrahim Magu remains suspended.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) quoted an unnamed senior official in EFCC as confirming that Umar has taken charge of the agency in Magu’s absence.
Before his appointment as interim boss, Umar was the Director of Operations at the anti-graft commission.
Reacting to the news, Omokri queried why all heads of EFCC from inception have been northerners.
Since its creation in 2003, Nuhu Ribadu (Adamawa State – North East), Farida Waziri (Benue State – North Central), Ibrahim Lamorde (Adamawa State – North East), and Ibrahim Magu (Borno State – North East) have led the commission.
In a tweet, Omokri asked: “Is there any law that say(s) @officialEFCC Chairmen can only come from the North? Magu goes and is replaced with another Northerner, Mohammed Umar. There have now been 5 chairmen. Each has been a Northern Muslim. What‘s happening? Are there no credible Southerners?”

Magu was picked up by men of the Department of State Services (DSS) on Monday and whisked before a presidential probe panel led by retired Justice Ayo Salami.
He is being probed over allegations of gross misconduct, including corruption and insurbodination.
